About

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (License #113641). I received my Bachelors in Clinical Psychology from California State University of Long Beach and my masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

I first realized my true capacity for compassion and unconditional care, working as a caretaker at a group home for adults with developmental disabilities. The tremendous sense of love and fulfillment that I experienced helping these individuals meet their basic physical needs as well as providing them meaningful engagement was profound for me. As an 18 year old art student at the time, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to be in the business of helping people and promptly switched majors as a result!

I became very passionate about serving this population and went on to work therapeutically with them through the years. While my experience at the group home was instrumental in my decision to become a therapist, it also helped to shape my therapeutic orientation.  Working in a group home setting afforded me the opportunity to engage the clients creatively which laid the foundation for my therapeutic interest in exploring strengths and promoting meaning.

In the last 10 years I have had the opportunity to work with adults, youth and children facing various life challenges. I have extensive experience conducting group and individual therapy with a strong therapeutic orientation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Strength based and Psychodynamic approaches. I also enjoy incorporating art therapy to support clients to explore experiences that are otherwise difficult to put into words.

As a therapist, I have honed my practice to addressing symptoms of depression and anxiety. I am interested in the multitude of biopsychosocial factors that contribute to the symptomology. In my practice, I support my clients to examine lifestyle issues. Within this realm, I help them to explore whether they are living a life that truly honors their needs, values and strengths. When it comes to managing these symptoms, I also find it critical to support the practice of restructuring thoughts and emotions that occur in response to the everchanging circumstances in life. Moreover, examining the role which trauma plays in developing people’s world view is important when it comes to understanding and shifting patterns of behavior and cognition.

My colleagues and those who know me best, describe me as a compassionate and non-judgmental therapist, who is simultaneously very direct in the therapeutic dialogue. I am glad you are taking this brave step and would be honored to support you in creating a life that you love!
